SCHRIFTCODIERUNG (ISO 15924)
Ein dreistelliger Nummerncode in Verbindung mit einer vierstelleigen Buchstabenkombination kodiert die ISO 15924 die meisten großen Schriften dieser Welt.
Mit den in dieser Norm definierten Schriftcodierungen werden unter anderem eindeutige Kennzeichnungen in Bibliotheken, in der Linguistik, in Informationsdiensten oder auch in Computeranwendungen (z. B. HTML-Seiten im Internet) vorgenommen.
In HTML-Seiten kann so beispielsweise zwischen Deutsch in lateinischer Schrift (Syntax des Sprachtags: de-Latn) und Deutsch in Fraktur (de-Latf) unterschieden werden.
Oder, Serbisch in kyrillischer (Syntax des Sprachtags: srp-Cyrl) oder lateinischer Schrift (Syntax des Sprachtags: srp-Latn).

Ebenso wird in den Sprachtags der RFC 4646 auf den ISO-Code 15924 zurückgegriffen.
Hier zwei Beispiele mit der entsprechenden RFC 4646-Syntax (RFC = Request for Comments):deu-Latn-CH bedeutet: deutsche Sprache (ISO 639) – in lateinischer Schrift (ISO 15924) – im Gebiet der Schweiz (ISO 3166);
en-Latn-AU bedeutet: englische Sprache (ISO 639) – in lateinischer Schrift (ISO 15924) – im Gebiet Australiens (ISO 3166).
